Local Philanthropy
Orange County Association supports Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity's national philanthropy, Reading is Fundamental, through various activities, including donation of books to local programs designed to encourage reading in children and to adult literacy programs. Our annual Author Under the Stars event features noted local authors as speakers and includes husbands, guests, friends in an al fresco dinner and evening program to benefit Pro Literacy, a county-wide adult literacy program conducted through the Newport Beach Library.
OCAA members supported Eta Sigma Chapter's "Reading is Key" event by contributing new children's books for the program, which enabled the chapter to send home 135 books to elementary and middle school children from disadvantaged communities through a successful interactive presentation designed to encourage reading as fun activity. In addition, our members supported and participated in the presentation of a weekend-long GIRLS Academy in spring, 2015 and 2018, by Eta Sigma Chapter at Chapman University to nearly 50 middle-school girls in Santa Ana who come from under-served areas of the County. The "hands on" program is designed to inspire leadership, respect and service in young women and to encourage them to pursue education and self-development. OCAA also participates annually in Rose McGill Holiday Sharing through the Kappa Foundation and supports Eta Sigma's campus-wide program "Fleurish" at Chapman University which delivers a positive message designed to promote friendship, mutual support, understanding and collaboration among the students.
OCAA again received national recognition at the 2018 Kappa Convention for its consistent support of the Kappa Foundation through annual donations made by members participating in the "Loyalty" program implemented to encourage every member to donate at least $5 to the Kappa Foundation annually. OCAA is proud to be named an outstanding support arm for Kappa philanthropies and member assistance. OCAA also received a Heritage Award for sharing its history at its 50th anniversary celebration in 2017 and a Chapter Support Award for its assistance to Eta Sigma Chapter. Local alumnae are encouraged to become involved with the chapter in whatever capacity they can and to participate fully in its activities. Chapter interaction is a vital part of the schedule each year.
